My current headset is in the process of literally decomposing, so I really need to find something new. Dad found an unopened pair of wireless earbuds that he had bought heavily discounted a long time ago, which I was interested in trying out.
I put them in the charging case until they were fully charged and then tried them on. They were really comfy (they're "sporty" ones that will rotate into place snugly with a latch), the sound quality was great and they have noise cancelling too! Perfect...
"Battery please charge" ...What? And then the left bud died and only the right one would work. Try to charge it again and go through the process of resetting the buds, re-pairing, and it works again... For a while. The battery time seems to be measured in seconds.
I think I prefer wired peripherals... 😭
I guess it wouldn't hurt to try asking fedi for headphone/headset recommendations.
- They NEED to be comfortable to wear while wearing glasses (if you don't wear glasses do not reply)
- Cheap (in price range of below 100€)

- They should muffle surrounding noise (actual ANC optional)
It feels impossible to find something that fits well with glasses, that's basically why I have been using my current one for so long even though they are falling apart.
I need both headphones and a mic but if I'm gonna be honest, I can compromise with just a pair of headphones using my current headset sitting on the table for the mic, if it means I don't need to sit in pain for hours a day. (Anything to encourage me to get a proper external mic is also always good)

That's true. But I have generated at work odf files with Excel and, opening them with LibreOffice, they had issues. And I don't mean format, but mathematics issues instead. Although I'm pretty sure is a defective implementation from M$, I also believe that people experiencing the same are going to blame LibreOffice for their faulty spreadsheets.

@ivan @Li @zaire @eris573 @nu at 6yo where a lot wont even take off to bed themselves i dont see any more convenience in software limitations than just not letting them have technology in their room overnight, especially if its just a laptop or ipad (if they are 6 they will get more benefit out of a laptop than an ipad but i digress)

i do agree they could be used maliciously by controlling parents especially for teens or other children trying to figure themselves out, and unfortunately that will always happen anyways, but it could still happen even before this existed in gnome 50, just through a more manual and physical way of taking away the computer or literally looking at their screen or something

@ivan @Li @zaire @eris573 @nu its a difficult one bcuz abusive parents can be uncontrollable and its not something you can easily fix, and technically gnome never needed to implement this, but then its not there for those that will legitimately benefit from this
unfortunately whatever you do there will always be those that misuse it
and realistically even if you werent using gnome 50 you could just set a cron job to shut the computer down every night and rely on full disk encryption to not have it be able to boot back up without the parent, considering most parents using linux will know how to do that, and sites can still be blocked through /etc/hosts too
it was always possible this just makes it less manual

@Li @eris573 @zaire @ivan there is a very clear difference depending on the age, these tools are meant for children that are very young, and while what you are saying is accurate and should be a point of concern in regard to parents and society not considering their children as human beings when they should be regarded with the dignity of a human that is just not as educated or and experienced with the world, but these reasons specifically is why there are limits put in place, especially to individuals under the age of 12 which are in the most crucial stages of their lives
what you are doing is essentially a “think of the children” but from the complete opposite end of the spectrum

your point is "think of the children" in the typical sense because you want to control and override their autonomy, which is almost always how thats used, meanwhile i want them to decide for themselves, what happens with them, this is not by any means " think of the children " and the usual suspects who push for this would absolutey hate this ..
