@fireweed@sakurajima.social i've lived there for quite a while, my best advice is to not look for something inside paris.
Since paris is not that big, and the metros and RERs go quite far, try to find something in the same region that is connected to paris by train, like villejuif, l'haÿ-les-roses, or even melun.
the train tickets will cost the same no matter how far you are or how many commuting trains you take as long as your trip starts and stop in the "île de france" region. It's all 2€50 for a ticket, or 2€ if you get automatic billing on your phone (idk if it works with non eu banks though, maybe revolut?).
the only thing to keep in mind is that transillien trains are on a different network iirc and they require you to buy the same ticket a second time if you commute to/from them.

@heredos@heredos.net I don't see why it wouldn't work with a credit card. Interesting....Do you have a recommendation of what region to stay in?

@fireweed@sakurajima.social somewhere from south to east.
also, it's not using a credit card but a sepa mandate contract, which i'm not sure even exists outside the eu

@heredos@heredos.net Just gonna see where else we should go. Wife wants to go somewhere else while we are there.
I am rooting for glasgow to see my team but maybe we'll hit Italy or Germany or something like that.
            Sweden?

@fireweed@sakurajima.social sweden is kinda far but you can easily take a full day to ride trains (i did that a few times between france and finland) make sure you look at the interrail pass if you do, it's messy to use but it makes it a lot cheaper if you travel a lot.

Also if you go to italy, their train system sucks so make sure you only get direct trains or you'll likely have to pay out of your own pocket if you miss a commute because of a delay

i can't really recommend anything tho cuz everything has nice places, it just depends on what you want to do, what you want to eat and how much money you are willing to spend
