@heredos@heredos.net I wanted to try mint but something about installing nvidia drivers via terminal just didn’t cut it for me! I’m willing to try another distro but this one seems ok and it mostly just works?
Also, most modern distros ship with nvidia drivers now that nouveau kind of became the official one.
But yea, i recommend you stick to big-name base distros like debian, ubuntu, arch (jk), suse or fedora.
They have a lot of derivatives, especially "easy for begginers" ones, but these are often less tested, with less users and documentation in cases you need help and have some premade configurations with dubious choices.

Those are just my personal picks though, and i'd still personally pick fedora as it comes with a lot more stuff to make a first experience more enjoyable and less barebones.

What is good? I know nothing about those devices!
I use a tablet. Better screen size and color. Unless I am going off-grid, where I don't have access to power.
As for readers, I like the Kobo except for their customer service, which is bad. It took two months for a warranty repair that died of the same problem within a week. So despite hating Amazon, I have a Kindle. I bought it while I waited for Kobo not to fix my reader.
@NaraMoore I don't really like reading on a tablet because of the luminosity.
So I would like something with some kind of a paper feel.

I can understand that. For manga, an e-reader is awful. For novels, they are fine, but I really do like the larger screen. I use large letters I can see well with aging eyes.

Are Kobo and Kindle the only two options?
Also, most of what I read is in Kobo or EPub format, and I would have to convert them to mobi to use the Kindle.

Speaking of koreader and manga, you can even use rakuyomi to manage your reading collection and automatically download chapters from "various sources". I use it a lot
@Kingu I've been eyeing Boox Go 7 color because in addition to being an ereader, it also
an e-ink android tablet with a size comparable to my Kindle Paperwhite.
Depending on your needs, a site like https://goodereader.com/ could point in the right direction.
@Kingu kobo has color e-ink devices that I’ve been eyeing for when my Kindle finally gives up the ghost.
@Kingu the Boox Palma is supposed to be good. I haven't used it myself, but it's the first one I would look for if I was buying an e-reader.

Kodo is not Amazon but it's an American company and as a Canadian this put them as the very last option.
Boox is not American but it appears they are violating the GPL which is not cool.
@Kingu I have used PocketBook in recent years (Swiss/Ukrainian company), I did like the Verse Pro quite a bit.
Right now I use a Kobo Clara (Canadian as mentioned), added a larger memory card and sideloaded KOReader software - IMHO a much nicer reading experience.
Both readers worked well with syncing large-ish Calibre libraries.
I have heard a few good things about Onyx Boox, but have no personal experience with it.
